![]() Various types of horses used at Hacienda Pozo Azul Costa Rica Paso Horse : originally a combination of Peruvian Paso Fino and Criollo horses probably descendants from horses initially brought by Spaniards, Later on Mixed with the Andalusian horse of which Costa Rica has a registry, and for many years the only one outside of Spain . This is a gaited horse with a lot of action on both front and back legs, a soft ride, a real pleasure to ride. We use this horses only with the experience rider. Iberian Horse . A combination of Andalusian and Costa Rica Paso Horse, this mixture was done to give larger size and strength to the Costa Rica Paso Horse, usually you get a much stronger horse, more docile, and maintaining a soft ride. There is a registry in Costa Rica , and has become quite popular. Most of our horses fall in this category. Quarter Horse: and hybrids with the two above started to be produced in the early 70’s with the importation of stallions by the government. This horse is very rustic and stands the harsh climate of the low tropics, is strong and can be trained for cattle work, A draw back in comparison with the two above is the hard bumpy ride.
