Pozo Azul  as Horse Treks Operator

Pozo Azul is now 5 years old since our beginnings in the tour operation business. We began offering what we knew best from a long family tradition: Horses, with horse rides in our Hacienda, in Sarapiquí, Costa Rica.  One year late we had become a destination for a variety of adventures related to the rich nature of Pozo Azul: Rafting, Canopy tours, rappel, hikes, and of course horses.

This year, Pozo Azul opened its lodge Pozo Azul Tent Suites which offers a different, unique and high quality option to accommodate our guests. We hope will satisfy your  customers and  will allow you to better program your packages and offer new and different ways to show the Northern and Caribbean Zones.

Parallel to this rapid expansion in services, we have been working and preparing Pozo Azul to expand our service based on our deep roots: horses and horse treks. We, as horse breeders keep a herd of 80 selected horses from which we have the quality needed for the best riders to enjoy in the most demanding treks.

Aside from the daily 2 and 4 hour tours for tourist in the hacienda, we have designed a variety of treks ranging from 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 days in the Sarapiquí area and an 11 day trek   combining the Sarapiquí jungle environment with the beach.

Horsemen can enjoy this activity throughout the world: Europe, the USA New Zeeland, Australia and in Latin America in Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile and to a lesser extent Perú and Ecuador. Costa Rica handles a modest volume in spite of the high volume of tourism, we are told by our customers operators, due to lack of good local operators.

We at Pozo Azul know can fill this gap! , and do it very well , based on our good credentials of service and quality in the past 5 years, and many years of personal experience  with horse treks.

Costa Rica is a country with a rich horsemanship tradition, horses are important part of its history   which is perpetuated by the   “cabalgatas”  (town’s organized horse rides)  and “topes’ ( towns  horse parades)  throughout the country  year round;  along with a tradition of genetic  production and export activities of the quality Criollo,  Andalucian and Iberic breeds.
Aside from its horsemanship and horse culture, Costa Rica is a unequal stage for horse treks , with its small territory 0.03% of the world ‘s total it has 4.0% of the world ‘s biodiversity and better yet, an  amazing  climate variety  and geographic variety  with 150 miles from coast to coast and 6 different climatic zones in less than 60 miles. Distances that can be handled while enjoying a good horse through the hundreds of miles of rural and secondary roads in one of the safest countries in Latin America, and coming in contact with the most authentic and beautiful and less known places in this exemplary democracy were the army was outlawed 60 years ago, and people are peaceful and educated.
